Burning Software

How to burn a DVD or CD.

Deciding on which you need to use is a decision based on file size of what you need to burn. A CD will hold around 700 Megabytes of data, whereas a DVD will hold several Gigabytes of data. Document files or even photos can be burned onto a CD, whereas a DVD will be more useful for videos, movies, music and photos is your collection is large.

When choosing your media, go for good quality CDs and DVDs. These come in many forms and can cause some confusion, DVD-R cannot be changed once burned, whereas a DVD-RW (DVD-rewritable) can be rewritten multiple (1000+) times. Any disc with DL in the title means ‘Dual Layer’ which provides 2 layers of recording ability, this doubles the capacity of the disc, however is incompatible in many older disc drives.

Its also good to note that when writing to a CD or DVD some software enables you to ‘close the session’ If you choose to do this you cannot add to this recording at a later date, if you leave the session open, you can add to this disc later.

You need both software and correct hardware to burn a CD or DVD, most new PC’s can accommodate burning.
